USS S-21 was transferred to the Royal Navy at New London on 14 September 1942. She remained in American waters, based at Halifax, Canada, as an anti-submarine warfare training boat. She was returned to the United States Navy at Philadelphia on 11 July 1944. She was sunk as a target off New England on 23 March 1945.
