Raised in 1957. Became the research vessel Wilhelm Bauer in the Bundesmarine, 1 Sept 1960. Transferred to the Deutsches Schiffahrtsmuseum (German Maritime Museum) at Bremerhaven in 1984.

Men lost from U-boats

Unlike many other U-boats, which during their service lost men due to accidents and various other causes, U-2540 did not suffer any casualties (we know of) until the time of her loss.
