Medal of Honor
The Medal of Honor is United States' highest military decoration. It is awarded to a member of the United States armed forced that "conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his [or her] life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States."
Because of the strict requirements the Medal of Honor is often awarded posthumously.
The medal pictured to the left is the Navy version, the Army and Air Force have slightly different look to them.
