At 04.26 hours on 27 Aug 1941 the Embassage (Master Edward Kiddie) in convoy OS-4 was torpedoed and sunk by U-557 about 100 miles west of Achill Island. The master, 32 crew members and six gunners were lost. Three crew members were picked up after four days by HMCS Assiniboine (I 18) (A/LtCdr J.H. Stubbs, RCN) and landed at Greenock.
