USS Colhoun (Lt Cmdr George Bernard Madden) was sunk by Japanese aircraft off Guadalcanal in position 09º24'S, 160º01'E. 51 of the crew were killed and 21 wounded, amongst the 77 survivors rescued by USS Meade was the Commanding officer.
