30 Nov 1942
USS Minneapolis (Captain Frank Jacob Lowry, USN) was torpedoed during the Battle of Tassaforonga and her bow was blown off. Heavily damaged cruiser managed to withdraw and was later repaired however 37 of the crew died and 36 were wounded.

Task Force 58 departed Majuro Atoll for operation HAILSTONE, a raid against the Japanese base at Truk Atoll.
