USS Escolar (T/Cdr. William John Millican, USN) probably hit a mine on her first war patrol in the Yellow Sea / Northern South Chine Sea on or after 17 October 1944. She was officially reported overdue on 27 November 1944.

It is also possible she was depth charged and sunk on 19 October 1944 by the Japanese frigate Kaibokan 38 (offsite link) in position 33°32'N, 128°43'E.
