History | HMS Viceroy was in reserve at the start of the 2nd World War awaiting conversion / refit Reconstruction to Fast Escort completed on 10 January 1941. Pennant number was D 91 changed to L 21 upon completion of this reconstruction. HMS Viceroy is not listed as active unit in the October 1945 Navy List Scrapped in June 1948. |

HrMs O 9 (Lt. H.A.W. Goossens, RNN) participated in A/S exercises off Campbeltown together with HMS Spaniel (Skr. C. Coultas, DSC, RNR) and HMS Viceroy (Lt.Cdr. D.P. Trentham, RN).
13 Jun 1943
HMS Sceptre (Lt. I.S. McIntosh, MBE, DSC, RN) conducted A/S exercises off Scapa Flow with HMS Wallace (Lt. D. Carson, RN), and HMS Viceroy (Lt. T.F. Hallifax, RN) and HMS Woolston (Lt. F.W. Hawkins, RN). (1)

German U-boat U-1274 was sunk in the North Sea north of Newcastle, in position 55°36'N, 01°24'W, by depth charges from the British destroyer HMS Viceroy (A/Lt.Cdr. J.E. Manners, RN).
This letter was written by Winston Churchill to the First Sea Lord.
