HrMs O 14 (Lt.Cdr. G. Quint, RNN(R)) departed Scapa Flow for her 5th war patrol. She was ordered to patrol off Trondheim. O 14 was escorted to a position East of the Shetland Islands by the British M/S trawler HMS Eday (T/Lt. W.Y. Surtees, RNR).
Before proceeding on patrol A/S exercises were carried out at / off Scapa Flow with HMS Middleton (Lt.Cdr. D.C. Kinloch, RN) and HMS Ludlow (Lt. G. Blackler, RN).

HMS Vitality (Lt. K.S. Renshaw, DSC, RNR) conducted A/S exercises off Tobermory with HMS Eday (T/Lt. G.G. Chisholm, RNVR), HMS Imperialist (T/Lt. L.G.H. Mole, RNVR), HMS Loch Craggie (T/A/Lt.Cdr. C.L.L. Davies, RNVR) and HMS St. Helena (T/A/Lt.Cdr. W.G. Pardoe-Matthews, RNR). (2)
