Merchant Sailors at War, 1939-1945
By Kaplan, Philip and Currie, Jack
Descripton: Covers the World War II convoys. Besides many photos and lots of informative text, an additional feature of this book is the wealth of information contained in the sidebars on most of the pages - factoids and statistics, reminiscences of veterans, excerpts from other books, verses of popular songs; and long sequences from a wartime manual called "How to Abandon Ship." A good overview of the convoy system, important battles and strategic turning points, intermixed with personal recollections of naval and merchant marine personnel.
From the uboat.net review: This pictorial-and-text history of World War II merchant marine and convoy operations is a good companion to the authors' earlier Wolfpack, following the same three-pronged format of text, images, and sidebars.
