UC 65 and Morinier engaged in a two hour long gunnery duel in which the steamer took several hits, but was able to fend off the U-boat. Steinbrinck broke off the action when darkness set in. Henry Saunders, Morinier’s master, was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his handling of his ship during the action.
